JMI-1 was the culmination of years of obsession. Obsession with the lyrical, immersive style of master alto and soprano saxophonist Steve Wilson. Obsession with the discographies of historic labels like CTI, WATT, Steeplechase and current powerhouses Blue Note and ECM. Obsession with the fact that Wilson had no vinyl releases. Obsession with showcasing Ray Angry in a small band. Obsession with working with perennially underrated Willie Jones III. Who says obsession is always bad? And, we’re off!
